Women's Basketball (CIS Ranking: No. 3) – The Cougars improved to
5-1 after recording a two-game weekend sweep at Alberta. Regina was able
to hold off the Pandas down the stretch for a 68-64 win on Friday, then
recovered from a 19-point deficit on Saturday to register an 80-68 win
over No. 9 Alberta. The Cougars return home this weekend to host Fraser
Valley (0-4) on Friday night and Thompson Rivers (2-4) on Saturday
night.
Men's Basketball – The Cougars (3-3) edged Alberta 62-61 on Friday
night to record the program's first road victory over the Golden
Bears, then completed the weekend sweep and evened their Canada West
record to 3-3 with a 78-73 win on Saturday. This weekend, the Cougars
return to the CKHS for a Friday game against Fraser Valley (3-3) and a
Saturday tilt against Thompson Rivers (0-6).
Women's Hockey – The Cougars (3-4-3) jumped into fourth place in
the conference after recording a two-game sweep over the Calgary Dinos
over the weekend. Lisa Urban had a 21-save shutout during a 1-0 win on
Friday, and Rianne Wight scored a hat trick and added an assist in the
Cougars' 5-2 win on Saturday. The U of R is right back at it this
weekend with a pair of road games at UBC.
Men's Hockey – Following a weekend off, the Cougars (4-8-0) return
to the ice this weekend for a pair of games at third-place Saskatchewan
(7-6-1). The Cougars and the Huskies will face off at 7 p.m. on both
Friday and Saturday at the Rutherford Rink on the U of S campus.
Women's Wrestling – The Cougars had a solid showing at the Can/Am
Meet in Jamestown, N.D. on Saturday, with five wrestlers earning
top-three finishes in their weight classes as the team finished in
second place in the overall standings. Hajar Ashtiani (48 kg) and Lisa
McKibben (67 kg) both won gold medals for the U of R. The men's and
women's wrestling teams will travel to Saskatoon this weekend to
compete in the Huskie Open on Saturday.
Men's and Women's Track & Field – The Cougars hosted the Intrasquad
Meet on Saturday at the CKHS, with Jeremy Eckert highlighting the
proceedings by hitting the CIS standard in the long jump. Eckert, last
season's CIS Male Rookie of the Year, jumped 7.11 metres to punch an
early ticket to the 2010 CIS Championships in Windsor, Ont. The Cougars
will finish the Intrasquad Meet with the high jump, weight throw, and
the shot put at the Regina Fieldhouse this Saturday beginning at 2:30
p.m.
Women's Volleyball (CIS Ranking: No. 4) – Regina (6-2) had an
impressive four set win over No. 5 Alberta on Friday night at the CKHS,
but lost to the Pandas in three sets on Saturday night. The Cougars, who
are currently tied with Brandon for fourth place in Canada West, will
return to the conference schedule on Jan. 8 and 9 at home against No.
1-ranked UBC (8-0).
Men's Volleyball – Fifth-year right side Mathew Brooks became the
first Cougar to record 800 career kills in the rally point era, but
Regina (0-8) was defeated by the No. 3-ranked Alberta Golden Bears on
both Friday and Saturday at the CKHS. The matches were the last for the
Cougars in the first part of their conference schedule, as they'll
return to the court on Jan. 8 and 9 against UBC (1-7) at the CKHS.

all players with 38 minutes on the floor, also added six assists and
